1931 ~ The Tribute of Life ~ 2017

Mrs. Alien Owens Thompson, 86, of Dudley, NC, departed this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC.  A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at The Bishop Lonnie E. Holloway Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home.  Rev. Emma Draughon, Officiating/Eulogist.

Mrs. Thompson was born March 9, 1931 and was the last member of her siblings, daughter of the late Mary Della Jane Furley and George Washington Owens, Sr. of Roberson County where she received her childhood education.  She had six brothers and sister who preceded her in death, Douglas Owens, George Owens, Irene Rhone, Enoch Owens, Clyde Owens, and William Owens.

Mrs. Thompson was a loving, caring and giving individual, who had a heart for helping others.  She served as a foster parent to many children in Wayne County. Extending her love, she legally adopted Christopher William Hicks as her son.  She was a caregiver to many of her family members.  She invited her brothers Enoch, William, and her father George W. Owens to live in their home—even nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thompson was a faithful member of Power of Prayer Deliverance Center under the leadership of Pastor Verna B. Tate. She was known in the community as a “sweet and kind” lady. She loved her bird “Billy Bob” and her pet dog “Jody”; who happily played Patty Cake with her.  Her favorite hobbies were fishing, cooking, and canning vegetables.

Mrs. Thompson leaves to cherish her loving memories; her husband and friend of 54 years, Eddie Mack Thompson of the home; her son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Hicks (Piedad); her grandson, Joshua of Dudley, NC; a special niece, Mary Elizabeth Owens of Goldsboro; a special nephew, David Owens of Goldsboro; Jackie and Thaddeus Oats of Goldsboro; Eric Lee Thompson, three sister-in-law’s, Inez Owens of Charlotte, NC; Helen Manning of Dillon, SC; and Ruby Robimar of Dudley, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.  Her labor of love will be cherished forever.
