Mr. Burie Garrett Obituary

A Legacy of Love

Burie Lee "Boot" Garrett, was born on July 25, 1940 in Edgecombe County to the late Ethel Lee Garrett and James Arthur Thorne. He entered into eternal life on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at his home.

Burie moved to Washington,DC and later moved to Forestville, Maryland. At the age of 22, he started working for West Brothers Brick Company and retired and moved to North Carolina in 1995. He worked at Do-Rite Dudley in Clinton, NC for a short period of time and in 1996, he started working with the Duplin County Courthouse in Kenansville, NC in which he retired in 2002.  Once he retired, he made sure friends and other people he knew got to their destinations but with a small fee.

He loved visiting the Senior Citizen Site in Kenansville talking and bringing joy to the Seniors.  Burie never met a stranger and always saw the good in everybody. Once you met him you would never forget him. When he talks to people it is guaranteed that he will make you laugh because he always likes to joke with people and make them smile.

Burie was well-known and loved by many, he was known for his honesty and his spunky personality. He was the best father ever and everyone would describe him as
one-of-a-kind because he always brightens people's day.

Burie was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters: Frank Jenkins, Kenneth Thorne, Robert Thorne, Mattie Bea Staton, Mable Knight, and Eula Hinton.

He leaves to cherish his legacy and precious memories; children, Leatrice Brown, Burie (Marie) Garrett Jr., Brenda Dash, and Denise Speller; step-daughter, Gerri Brown; brothers, Joseph Thorne, Johnnie Thorne, and Charlie Murphy; sisters, Mary Murphy, Barbara Ann Warren, and Yvonne Murphy; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends.
