Ms. Essie Wooten Obituary

Essie Mae Wooten, lovingly known to her family and friends as “Marge”, was born October 25, 1943 to the late Elbert Wooten, Sr. and Janie Lewis Wooten in the Best Station Community. She departed this earthly life on Monday, November 27, 2023.  She was preceded in death by five siblings:  Kirby Wooten, Reginald Wooten, Odessa Wooten, Cleo Warren, and Elbert Wooten, Jr.

Essie was a graduate of Central High School in the Class of 1962.  Shortly after high school, she moved to New York City where she worked at New York Pad Company. Shortly after moving back home, she was employed at Wayne Manufacturing in Goldsboro.  Essie joined Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and worked faithfully on the Usher Board until her health declined.  She was always asked to make her “delicious biscuits” for the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at Shady Grove.

Essie leaves to cherish her precious memories; four sisters, Lillie Coley of Fayetteville, NC, Hilda Farmer (William), Angeline Hamilton, and Bunnie Wooten, all of Goldsboro, NC;  two brothers, Johnny Wooten (Bessie)  of Goldsboro, NC and Bobby Wooten (Cheryl) of Atlanta, GA; a special niece, Regina Wooten of New York; three aunts, Ella Jackson, Delores Summers, and Barbara Best; special friends, Pauline (Susie) Wooten, Lisa Fleming, Debra Edwards, Christina Simmons Tucker; Toni and Shannon Griswold; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
